Botany is the synoptic title of audio works by Austin multi-instrumentalist Spencer Stephenson. His largely instrumental sound is a chimera of live instrumentation and dusty record sampling that connects dots of psychedelic folk, krautrock and kosmische, spiritual jazz, and neoclassical sound-design on a bedrock of earthy, hard-hitting hip hop drums. Though many of his performances demonstrate live layering of vocals and keys atop a seamless procession of beats, his sets can sometimes consist of woodwinds, bombastic drumming (by Sam Chown of Zorch/Shmu), or improvisatory ambient explorations generated entirely on the spot.

Spencer Stephenson, AKA Botany, is an Austin-based musician and producer who grafts different sounds and loops, stemming from a variety of sources, to form a musical collage that is both spiritual and psychedelic.
